Proverbs 4:1-13
Listen to the instruction of a father, my sons, and pay attention so you may have understanding, for I am giving you good instruction. Do not abandon my teaching.
When I was my father’s son, tender and precious to my mother, he taught me and said “Let your heart retain my words, keep my instruction and live. Get wisdom and get understanding. Don’t forget, or turn away from the words of my mouth. Don’t abandon wisdom and she will preserve you. Embrace her and she will honor you.”
Wisdom is the principal thing, so get wisdom and whatever else you get, get understanding. Cherish them, and they will exalt you. They will bring you to honor when you embrace them. They will place an garland of grace on your head and give you a crown of glory.
Hear my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life will be many. I am teaching you in the way of wisdom. I am guiding you in the right paths. When you follow, your steps will not be hindered and when you run, you will not stumble.
Hold on to instruction, do not let go. Guard it, for it is your life.
