CHASTENING

My son, do not hate the chastening of Jehovah nor faint when he reproves you, for Jehovah disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son that He receives.

If you endure discipline, God deals with you as sons, for what son is he whom the father doesn’t discipline? For, if you are without discipline that all partake of, then you are bastards and not sons.

Furthermore, we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us and we gave them respect. Shall we not more readily be in subjection to the Father of Spirits and live?

For they, our fleshly fathers, discipline us as it pleases them, but God does so for our benefit that we might be partakers of His holiness.

No discipline seems to be joyous, but grievous in the present. Nevertheless, afterwards it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness in those that are exercised by it.

So, lift up the hands which hang down despondently and steady the feeble knees. Make straight paths for your feet lest that which is lame be turned out of the way, but rather, let it be healed.

Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which no man shall see Jehovah. Look diligently less any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and defile many.

Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For you know how later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
